The shop

A father’s chair, and the one beside it.

Est. 2009. Hamid Rahman opened Crown & Compass with one chair and a straight razor. In 2019, his son Yusuf took the chair beside his. The barbering is the old kind — unhurried, precise, finished with a hot towel — and the shop still knows most heads that walk in by name.

Clean and classic, nothing flashy: that’s the cut, and that’s the shop.

Classic cuts, hot-towel shaves, and the kind of scissor work you sit still for. Ask him about the first chair.

Skin fades, textured crops, beard shaping. The reason the shop's Instagram looks the way it does.

Sample reviews — illustrative content for this demo

Fifteen years and I've never once had to tell him twice. My son gets his cuts here now too.

Abu M.

Texted at noon, in the chair by four, sharpest fade in the west suburbs. It's not close.

Deshawn R.

The hot-towel shave is the most relaxing thirty minutes of my week. Old-school in the best way.

Questions

Before you come in.

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes — Tue–Sat, worked in between booked chairs. Texts get priority, so if your window is tight, send one first and we’ll tell you honestly how the floor looks.

How does text booking work?

Text your name, the service, and the day/time you’re hoping for to (708) 555-0142. A human — usually Yusuf — replies with a confirmed time within the hour during shop hours. No apps, no accounts.

Do you cut kids’ hair?

Every day. Under-12s are $22, and patience is included. Weekday afternoons are the calmest if your barber-chair rookie needs a quieter room.

Card or cash? Parking?

Both, and free — card or cash at the chair, and free parking directly out front on Harlem Ave.

Why are you closed Friday midday?

We close 12:30–2pm for Jumu’ah prayer and reopen right after — Friday afternoons are otherwise fully staffed until 7.
